RealCoinz

RealCoinz is a performance in which the artist appropriates the viewer’s legal currency coins as raw material, shows affection to the objects in the form of jewelry level polish and stamping using a belt-mounted manual coin polisher, while discussing love. He then returns the resultant art object to the viewer for free. In this simple gesture, he questions the value of art as a commodity, highlights physical currency as placeholders for abstract compensations of our time, and acknowledges the necessity of friction in love, while asking, “Where is the limit in which our love actually does damage?”
