COPY

COPY is a multi-site public artwork consisting of aluminum street signs installed on existing New York City signposts at the intersection of 14th Street and Ninth Avenue in Chelsea. Each sign is a textual copy of an ad appearing on a billboard mounted on a building opposite. COPY exposes the slippery, often counterintuitive assumptions we make about the clarity or legibility of text and images, as well as how these images function in the context of our urban landscape.
